I’m Afraid to Go to Church
My question is about church. A friend of mine keeps asking me to go to church with her. She loves her church and really wants me to go. I keep making excuses because I’m afraid to go. I want to go, but I don’t know anything about it. See my parents don’t believe in God so they have never taken us. She said everyone is nice there and I don’t need to dress up which is good, but what if I don’t understand what they’re talking about. Can I go with her even if I don’t know about it?
It is perfectly okay that you’re nervous about going. Anything new or unknown can feel scary. Never let that stop you if it’s something you want to do.
Before you go, ask your friend the name of the church and check out their website. Get a vibe. See what it’s all about. Don’t forget to talk to your friend. She understands it’s your first time. It sounds like she is excited to share this part of her life with you. Don’t be afraid to ask her any questions.
It’s your first time going to church.
You are not expected to know anything. Relax and enjoy spending time with your friend. Meet new people, take everything in, and see how it makes you feel.
Every church is different. What is right for one person may not be right for you. Going with your friend is a new life experience. You don’t have to join her’s, or any other church unless it is something that you want to do.
Does anyone have tips for KD’s first-time church experience?
